Basically though, Cloud is connecting through the internet to multiple places for programs, data, etc.
Have you heard of SETI doing data processing on multiple computers on the internet? Well, this is kind of like the reverse of that.. multiple programs on the internet run by one computer (yours).. well.. actually they can be run by multiple computers.
Basically the idea of cloud represents the fact you don’t know where your computing resource/request is being handled. The idea is multiple systems that can handle the request and it is sent to the one best suited for it. Could be based on how busy some servers are, which ones have the resource you need, etc.
Basically you ask the “cloud of computers” and get a result from somewhere. You don’t care how or where, just that you get the result.
You may want to search Sun Microsystems for Cloud.
