Electron Sea
The particles in a metal are held close together by metallic bonding, in which a lattice of positive metal ions is held together by a ‘sea’ of electrons. these electrons are described as free, mobile, or delocalised because they can move throughout the metal. There is a strong elecrostatic attraction between the ‘sea’ of delocalised electrons and close packed positive metal ions.
